General information
Interconnected SCS offering
The SCS ecosystem comprises several interconnected specialist services and software components that are provided as a unified offering. Certain personal or personally identifiable data is required for use or arises in the course of use:
- We process account and identification data for authentication, access control, and communication within the user relationship (e.g. login name, email address, institutional affiliation).
- We process session data for authentication and secure operation (e.g. login and session tokens, access times).
- We process work content—including personal data where you submit such data to the working environment—to provide the selected functions and for storage and collaborative editing (e.g. entries, uploaded files, subject-specific data, documents, modelling, and work-in-progress).
- We process technical usage data to ensure operational security, protect against misuse, and maintain service stability (e.g. time of access, functions used, connection data).
Data flows within the offering
The components of the SCS are technically interconnected. Data is exchanged within the provided environment between the services used, insofar as this is necessary for the respective functional process—for example for authentication, content storage, collaborative editing, or subject-specific queries. Processing generally takes place within systems operated or commissioned by us.
Disclosure to third-party providers
Data is transmitted to external third-party providers only insofar as this is technically necessary for a specifically used function—in particular where external services are integrated for map display, authority data linking, or comparable specialist functions. In these cases, transmission is limited to the scope functionally necessary for the respective query or display. Without such functional integration, no transmission to external third parties takes place.
Legal bases
Processing is carried out on the following legal bases:
- Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR, insofar as processing is necessary for the performance of the user relationship or a comparable institutional provision.
- Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, insofar as processing is necessary to safeguard legitimate interests, in particular to ensure IT security and proper operation.

For security reasons and to protect the transmission of confidential content, such as orders or enquiries you send to us as the site operator, this site uses SSL or TLS encryption. Cookies
Our web pages use so-called “cookies”. Cookies are small data packets and do not cause any damage to your end device. They are stored either temporarily for the duration of a session (session cookies) or permanently (persistent cookies) on your end device. Session cookies are automatically deleted after your visit ends. Persistent cookies remain stored on your end device until you delete them yourself or automatic deletion by your web browser occurs.
Cookies may originate from us (first-party cookies) or from third-party companies (so-called third-party cookies). Third-party cookies enable the integration of certain services from third-party companies within web pages (e.g. cookies for processing payment services).
Cookies have various functions. Many cookies are technically necessary because certain website functions would not work without them (e.g. the shopping cart function or the display of videos). Other cookies may be used to evaluate user behaviour or for advertising purposes.
Cookies that are required for carrying out the electronic communication process, for providing certain functions you have requested (e.g. for the shopping cart function), or for optimising the website (e.g. cookies for measuring web audience) (necessary cookies) are stored on the basis of Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, unless another legal basis is stated. The website operator has a legitimate interest in storing necessary cookies for the technically error-free and optimised provision of its services. Where consent to the storage of cookies and comparable recognition technologies has been requested, processing takes place exclusively on the basis of this consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR and § 25(1) TTDSG); consent may be revoked at any time.
You can configure your browser so that you are informed about the setting of cookies and allow cookies only in individual cases, exclude acceptance of cookies for certain cases or in general, and activate automatic deletion of cookies when closing the browser. If cookies are deactivated, the functionality of this website may be limited.
If further cookies and services are used on this website, you can find this information in this privacy policy.

The provider of the pages automatically collects and stores information in so-called server log files that your browser automatically transmits to us. These are:
- Browser type and browser version
- Operating system used
- Referrer URL
- Hostname of the accessing computer
- Time of the server request
- IP address
This data is not merged with other data sources.
The collection of this data is based on Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. The website operator has a legitimate interest in the technically error-free presentation and optimisation of its website—for this purpose server log files must be recorded.
Registration on this website
You can register on this website to use additional functions on the site. We use the data entered for this purpose only to use the respective offering or service for which you have registered. The mandatory information requested during registration must be provided in full. Otherwise we will reject the registration.
For important changes, for example to the scope of the offering or technically necessary changes, we use the email address provided during registration to inform you in this way.
The processing of data entered during registration is for the purpose of implementing the user relationship established by registration and, where applicable, initiating further contracts (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).
The data collected during registration is stored by us for as long as you are registered on this website and is subsequently deleted. Statutory retention periods remain unaffected.
Contact form
If you send us enquiries via the contact form, your details from the enquiry form, including the contact details you provide there, will be stored by us for the purpose of processing the enquiry and in case of follow-up questions. We do not disclose this data without your consent.
The processing of this data is based on Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR, where your enquiry is related to the fulfilment of a contract or is necessary for carrying out pre-contractual measures. In all other cases, processing is based on our legitimate interest in the effective processing of enquiries addressed to us (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) or on your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR) where this has been requested; consent may be revoked at any time.
The data you enter in the contact form remains with us until you request erasure, revoke your consent to storage, or the purpose for data storage no longer applies (e.g. after your enquiry has been processed). Mandatory statutory provisions—in particular retention periods—remain unaffected.
Enquiry by email, telephone, or fax
If you contact us by email, telephone, or fax, your enquiry including all resulting personal data (name, enquiry) will be stored and processed by us for the purpose of handling your request.
The data you send to us via contact enquiries remains with us until you request erasure, revoke your consent to storage, or the purpose for data storage no longer applies (e.g. after your request has been processed). 5. Plugins and tools
Google Fonts (local hosting)
This site uses so-called Google Fonts provided by Google for uniform display of fonts. The Google Fonts are installed locally. No connection to Google servers takes place in this process.
Further information on Google Fonts can be found at https://developers.google.com/fonts/faq and in Google’s privacy policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy?hl=de.
OpenStreetMap
We use the map service of OpenStreetMap (OSM).
We integrate map material from OpenStreetMap on the server of the OpenStreetMap Foundation, St John’s Innovation Centre, Cowley Road, Cambridge, CB4 0WS, United Kingdom. The United Kingdom is regarded as a third country with an adequate level of data protection. This means that the United Kingdom has a level of data protection equivalent to that in the European Union. When OpenStreetMap maps are used, a connection to the servers of the OpenStreetMap Foundation is established. In the process, your IP address and other information about your behaviour on this website may be forwarded to the OSMF. OpenStreetMap may store cookies in your browser or use comparable recognition technologies for this purpose.
The use of OpenStreetMap is in the interest of an appealing presentation of our online offerings and easy findability of the locations indicated on the website. This constitutes a legitimate interest within the meaning of Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. Where corresponding consent has been requested, processing takes place exclusively on the basis of Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR and § 25(1) TTDSG, insofar as the consent covers the storage of cookies or access to information on the user’s end device (e.g. device fingerprinting) within the meaning of the TTDSG. Consent may be revoked at any time.
